Mona Shores had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out the Fruitport Trojans 2-1. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Mona Shores who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 15-6.

Fruitport is on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Fruitport will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Spring Lake at 6:00 p.m. on the 16th. Mona Shores will be paying especially close attention to Fruitport's contest: after Fruitport faces off against Holland Christian, they'll take on Mona Shores again at 8:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
