Baseball Game Preview: McAllen Bulldogs vs. Sharyland Rattlers

McAllen is 2-7 against Sharyland since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The McAllen Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Sharyland Rattlers at 7:00 p.m.

McAllen is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since May 18, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 17-4 to La Joya.

McAllen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fernie Olivarez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Sharyland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Jaguars as they made off with an 11-5 victory. The Rattlers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sharyland also got a great performance from Emilio Villarreal as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Villarreal has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sharyland let Edgar Quintanilla and Fabrizio Salinas run wild. Quintanilla scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2, while Salinas got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave Quintanilla a new career-high. Luis Balderas was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Sharyland's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for McAllen, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-1.

McAllen came up short against Sharyland in their previous matchup on Tuesday, falling 7-2. Can McAllen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
