Basketball Recap: Winside Skates Past Randolph with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winside). They blew past the Randolph Cardinals 63-16 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Winside was led to victory by Hadleigh Schutt and Bridget Marotz. Schutt went 8 of 20 en route to 20 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Marotz dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards. Marotz has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Ellie Topp was another key player, going 6 of 12 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Winside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Randolph saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kynlee Winkelbauer posted six points and ten rebounds. Winkelbauer is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Winside moved to 3-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Randolph, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Winside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-41 defeat against Winnebago on the 10th. As for Randolph, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Randolph Cardinals challenge the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Niobrara/Verdigre will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Randolph surely won't give up without a fight.
