Football Recap: Victor Estrada Key Part of Team Effort in Tigers Win

Sterling won the last time they faced Fort Lupton and things went their way on Friday too. The Tigers blew past the Bluedevils 43-22. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Sterling's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victor Estrada, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Those 130 rushing yards gave Estrada a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Memphis Dempcy, who rushed for 68 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sterling was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 278 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Fort Lupton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donte Lenox picked up 100 receiving yards, and also punched in one score on the ground. Lenox didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception which he returned for a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Sterling and bumps their season record up to 4-4. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Fort Lupton and 1-6 Arvada. As for Fort Lupton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sterling will head out to square off against Weld Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Lupton, they will venture away from home to face off against Arvada at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bluedevils will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
