Football Game Preview: Gross Catholic Cougars vs. Louisville Lions

Two dominant backs in Robbie Brennan and Braxton Nebuda are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gross Catholic Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Louisville Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gross Catholic has three straight wins, Louisville has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Gross Catholic's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Brownell Talbot for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-0 victory. That 49 point margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Gross Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Cole Povondra led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Meanwhile, Louisville fell victim to Boys Town and their airtight defense on Friday. They had to suffer through a 32-0 loss at the hands of the Cowboys.

Gross Catholic's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Louisville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Gross Catholic has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Louisville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 193.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Gross Catholic strolled past Louisville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 14-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
