After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Monticello, Meridian was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Arcola Purple Riders 16-1. That looming 16-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.
Ashley Schelling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Meridian got a massive performance out of Morgan Knierim, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Shelby Renfro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meridian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
