Basketball Recap: Kelan Davidson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rock Hill over Fairland

Rock Hill lost against Fairland back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The contest between the Rock Hill Redmen and the Fairland Dragons didn't end well, with the Rock Hill Redmen falling 58-43. While losing is never fun, the Redmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Dragons are ranked 27th).

Several Redmen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kelan Davidson, who posted eight points along with ten rebounds and six assists. Davidson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Mayson Black also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Even though they lost, Rock Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Fairland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cliff Fransen out in front who went 7 of 11 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds. Those 21 points gave Fransen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Buchanan, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points.

Rock Hill dropped their record down to 4-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Fairland, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Rock Hill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-56 loss against Dawson-Bryant on the 27th. As for Fairland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-56 win against Ironton on the 28th.
