Softball Game Preview: Kossuth Aggies vs. Mantachie Mustangs

The Kossuth Aggies will head out on the road to square off against the Mantachie Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kossuth has five straight wins, Mantachie has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Kossuth is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Booneville with a sharp 17-6 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Aggies, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Clement spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caliann Mitchell, who fired off three home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Alana Lewis was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Kossuth hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mantachie lost 16-3 to Mooreville on Friday.

Kossuth's win bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Mantachie, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.

Everything went Kossuth's way against Mantachie in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Kossuth made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aggies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
