Football Game Preview: Lufkin Panthers vs. Weiss Wolves + How To Watch

The Lufkin Panthers will take on the Weiss Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lufkin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Weiss likes a good challenge.

Lufkin is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Westbury with a sharp 35-10 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Panthers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Huskies are ranked 702nd).

Lufkin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Demerea Rodriguez, Chance Horace, and Sam Smith picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Westbury's side was Desmen Hood, who picked up a sack and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss).

La Porte typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Weiss proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 42-35 victory over the Bulldogs. Things were looking grim for the Wolves in the second quarter (they were down by 21) but they stormed back to get the matchup.

Weiss found their leader in sophomore Jaxon Schad, who rushed for 95 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kendall Robertson, who gained 142 total yards.

Weiss was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 344 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Weiss is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.6 points on average over those games. As for Lufkin, their record now sits at 8-3.
