Football Recap: Dunbar Runs Past Elkton + How To Watch

It's playoff time, and Dunbar had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 32-16 win over the Elkton Golden Elks on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Poets also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.

Donteze Branch was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 137 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dunbar was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 330 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 267 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Dunbar's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jabari Torbit, Savion Williams, and Eugene Cummings, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Elkton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen McBride, who threw for 198 yards and two TDs. Jamir Crawford handled things on the ground, rushing for 104 yards.

Dunbar's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Elkton, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 11-1.

Looking ahead, Dunbar will square off against Lackey on Friday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Poets surely won't give up without a fight. Elkton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
