Softball Recap: St. Marys Extends Winning Streak to Five

St. Marys came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Petersburg Vikings 9-3. Considering the Blue Devils have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cali Masters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Autumn Mossor, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Brylee McGrady was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

St. Marys pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Petersburg, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.

St. Marys wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-6 victory against Lincoln on the 18th. As for Petersburg, they will square off against Robert C. Byrd at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
