Basketball Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Sydney Thomas and Alexandria Morland-Tellez

Academy of Our Lady of Peace was the 46-22 winner over La Jolla when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots fell 49-40 to the La Jolla Vikings on Friday.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace's loss came despite strong showings from Alexandria Morland-Tellez and Sydney Thomas. Morland-Tellez posted 11 points and three steals, while Thomas earned 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those 11 points gave Morland-Tellez a new career-high. Isabella Hemmens was another key player, putting up four points.

La Jolla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reagan Bennett led the charge by posting 16 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Farrar, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace dropped their record down to 3-22 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for La Jolla, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-9.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace has already played their next match, a 43-40 win against Sage Creek on the 10th. As for La Jolla, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-36 victory against Hoover on the 11th.
