Preview: North Stanly Comets vs. Brevard Blue Devils
North Stanly has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Brevard Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
North Stanly had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past T.W. Andrews 34-32. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for North Stanly's seven-point performance the matchup before.
Chance Blake was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes. Conner Lupole did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 115 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Brevard entered their tilt with Trinity with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Brevard blew past Trinity 44-13 at home. Brevard might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight games by 20 points or more this season.
Benjamin Kessinger and Nyrell Skinner were among the main playmakers for Brevard as the former threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes and the latter rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Brevard's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Judson Weaver was especially locked on to Trinity's QB and sacked him twice.
North Stanly has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Brevard, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: North Stanly has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.6 rushing yards per game.
