Baseball Recap: Taft Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Taft made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lincoln Park, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Lions on Friday. Considering the Eagles have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Carlos Gonzalez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has become a key player for Taft: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucas Espinosa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Taft is undefeated when Espinosa posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Jocic, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Espinosa wasn't the only one making solid contact: Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Eagles are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Taft moved to 6-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Lincoln Park, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will face off against Niles West at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lincoln Park, they will square off against Westmont at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sentinels have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
