Softball Recap: Northwest Takes a Loss

If Northwest was feeling good fresh off their 15-5 takedown of Heights on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grizzlies fell 6-2 to the Great Bend Panthers on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Grizzlies of the 18-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Lilly Hoffman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Northwest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Touchatt, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was Touchatt's first of the season.

Northwest now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Great Bend, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.

Looking ahead, Northwest will venture away from home to take on Dodge City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies are facing the Demons at the right time seeing as the Demons are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Great Bend, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Hays at 6:00 p.m. The Indians will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
