Basketball Recap: Basic Comes Up Short

Basic lost against Arbor View back in December of 2017 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Basic Wolves lost 72-50 to the Arbor View Aggies. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Aggies are ranked ninth).

Despite the loss, Basic still got an impressive performance from Amare Oba, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. That was a full 50% of Basic's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was JaMari Cottingham, who put up five points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Basic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Basic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Arbor View, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Basic won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sports Leadership & Management at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Basic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. As for Arbor View, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Durango at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Arbor View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Durango likes a good challenge.
