Football Game Preview: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Perry Pumas + Official Tickets

The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will challenge the Perry Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Perry took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Salpointe Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Salpointe Catholic took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They snuck past Westwood with a 34-30 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Lancers considering their seven-point performance the game before.

Salpointe Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chris Chaney, who rushed for 134 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Chaney has become a key player for the Lancers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Another receiver making a difference was David Rushing, who picked up 99 receiving yards and two TDs.

Salpointe Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nas Pedrego.

Meanwhile, Perry faced Mesa in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Pumas took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jackrabbits.

Perry's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Salpointe Catholic, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.
