Basketball Recap: Blacklick Valley Takes a Loss

If Blacklick Valley was riding high fresh off their 63-37 takedown of Belleville Mennonite last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blacklick Valley Vikings were dealt a 71-42 loss at the hands of the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 546th, while the Rams are ranked 230th).

When it comes to explaining why Blacklick Valley lost, don't look at Drew McEvoy. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Nedrich, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

It was another big night for Bryce Nicholson, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 27 points along with seven assists and four steals for Turkeyfoot Valley Area. Nicholson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colt Rugg, who went 8 of 17 en route to 16 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Blacklick Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Blacklick Valley will host North Star at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Blacklick Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-44 victory against Shanksville Stonycreek on the 28th.
