Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Seven Gourdet and Amira Martin Lead Fleming Island to Victory

Fleming Island won the last time they faced Oakleaf and things went their way on Friday too. The Fleming Island Golden Eagles walked away with a 37-27 victory over the Oakleaf Knights. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Eagles.

Fleming Island was led to victory by Amira Martin and Seven Gourdet. Martin posted eight points along with six boards and three steals, while Gourdet dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. That's the most steals Martin has posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Oakleaf still got an impressive performance from Roslyn Weston, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. Weston has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Parsons, who had four points.

Fleming Island's record now sits at 7-8. As for Oakleaf, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-9.

It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Fleming Island Golden Eagles face off against the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Oakleaf, they will host Westside at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Oakleaf is facing Westside at the right time seeing as Westside is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
