Basketball Game Preview: Houlka Wildcats vs. Falkner Eagles

The Houlka Wildcats will challenge the Falkner Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Houlka has six straight wins, Falkner has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Friday, Houlka was able to grind out a solid victory over Water Valley, taking the game 53-43. The 53-point effort marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Houlka had a senior duo take command as Jerome Staton dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds and Josh Buchanan posted 15 points and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Staton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Wilson, who scored six points.

Meanwhile, Falkner took a blow against Nettleton on Tuesday, falling 60-28.

Houlka will have to contain Malakhi Nunley as he made an impact in Falkner's last game. He dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.

Falkner's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Houlka, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Houlka hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66 points per game. It's a different story for Falkner, though, as they've been averaging only 32.3 points. The only thing between Houlka and another offensive beatdown is the Eagles. Will they be able to keep them contained?

Houlka beat Falkner 68-59 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
