Softball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Mustangs vs. Desert Mountain Wolves

The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Desert Mountain Wolves at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Desert Mountain took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sunrise Mountain, who comes in off a win.

Sunrise Mountain proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Coconino 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since March 27, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Mckenna Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Kaylee Pruetz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Desert Mountain was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They fell just short of Perry by a score of 3-1. The match marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Desert Mountain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Gehrke, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Having lost for the first time this season, Desert Mountain fell to 3-1-1. As for Sunrise Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Sunrise Mountain suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Desert Mountain when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
