St. John had won eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 3-0 to make it nine. They took down the Takoma Academy Tigers 78-59. The Cadets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

As for Takoma Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points over those games.

When it comes to explaining why Takoma Academy lost, don't look at Matthew McKenzie. Despite the final result, he posted 28 points. Nick Parris was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Coming up, St. John's will welcome Gonzaga at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Cadets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Takoma Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-33 win against Varsity Opponent on the 4th.
