Cudahy came into Wednesday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the St. Francis Mariners 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Packers have posted since October 5, 2024.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Cudahy got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-9.

Despite the loss, St. Francis saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma McGeary had 23 digs and two aces. Those 23 digs set a new season-high mark for McGeary. Florencia Hernando also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Cudahy picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-10. As for St. Francis, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Cudahy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Whitnall at 6:30 p.m. on October 7. As for St. Francis, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Lake Country Lutheran on the 25th.
