Softball Preview: Grovetown Warriors vs. Evans Knights
After four games on the road, Grovetown is heading back home. They will welcome the Evans Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grovetown knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten run or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Evans likes a good challenge.
Grovetown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: Greenbrier, who was ranked fourth in their home state at the time (Grovetown was ranked 11th). Everything went Grovetown's way against Greenbrier on Wednesday as Grovetown made off with a 12-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Maddy Harl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Harl was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Treasure Story was incredible, going 4-for-4 with five RBI and three doubles. Another player making a difference was Iman Wright, who went 1-for-4 with a home run.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Grovetown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now hit at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Evans came up short against Screven County on Monday, falling 10-3. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Victoria Rodriguez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with a home run.
Grovetown pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Evans, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
