The Laconia Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Laconia's victory against Mayville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans won by a set and slipped past the Cardinals 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on three straight.
Laconia was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-7.
Meanwhile, Winnebago Lutheran Academy had just enough and edged out Wautoma 3-2 on Tuesday.
Winnebago Lutheran Academy took Wautoma into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-13, 25-20, 15-25, 15-11.
Laconia better keep an eye on Bella Dowland. She was instrumental in Winnebago Lutheran Academy's win, getting 11 digs.
Winnebago Lutheran Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in three consecutive matches.
Laconia's record now sits at 23-6. As for Winnebago Lutheran Academy, their record is now 13-18.
Everything went Laconia's way against Winnebago Lutheran Academy in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as Laconia made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
