Recap: Durham Academy Cavaliers vs. Riverside-Durham Pirates
After a string of four wins, the Durham Academy Cavaliers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Riverside-Durham. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Durham Academy in their matchups with Riverside-Durham: they've now lost three in a row.
Durham Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amare Burrus, who scored four points along with four steals. Burrus also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Quin Frasher was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
It was another big night for Corey Hairston jr., who scored 22 points along with three steals for Riverside-Durham. The matchup was Hairston jr.'s tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Kelleh, who scored eight points along with seven steals.
Durham Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Riverside-Durham, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durham Academy and Non Varsity Opponent will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Riverside-Durham will be home for the holidays to greet Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Green Level knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Riverside-Durham likes a good challenge.
