Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Yucaipa

Yucaipa proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 22) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Sonora Raiders 57-55. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Thunderbirds' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Raiders are ranked 105th).

Yucaipa found their leader in sophomore Johanna Thames, who dropped a double-double on 36 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thames has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Elgan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Yucaipa's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Sonora, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Yucaipa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-44 victory against Sunny Hills on the 14th. Sonora will take on California in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on December 20th. California will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sonora surely won't give up without a fight.
