Football Recap: Carter Duffey Leads Lee's Summit's Defense on Friday

While Lee's Summit's win against Staley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 28-25 victory over the Falcons on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since November 8, 2024.

Preston Hatfield had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 204 yards and three scores while picking up 11.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 134 yards on only eight passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Karsten Fiene was Hatfield's top target, picking up 43 receiving yards, while also rushing for 105 yards and one TD.

Lee's Summit's run defense was locked in: Staley could only muster three yards per carry. The team can thank Drew Benassi for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lee's Summit didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.6.

Lee's Summit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Carter Duffey, Kona Notestine, and Isaiah McConnell picked up one apiece.

Despite the loss, Staley still got an impressive performance from Nick Ballew, who picked up 85 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 33 yards.

Lee's Summit pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.0 points over those games. As for Staley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
