The Pacifica Tritons will face off against the Simi Valley Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pacifica will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Pacifica had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 26-point drubbing they dealt Camarillo on Friday. The Tritons were the clear victors by a 42-16 margin over the Scorpions. The Tritons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 21 points or more this season.
Taylor Lee produced another solid performance throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 33 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Angel Sepulveda, who rushed for 67 yards and one score on only eight carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Pacifica proved: they limited Camarillo to a paltry 1.6 yards per carry. The team can thank PeeWee Wilson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pacifica didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Tyler Stewart, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 54 points the game before, Simi Valley was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They fell 24-12 to Bishop Diego. While the Pioneers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Cardinals 6-0.
Although Simi Valley took the loss, they still got scores from Jayden Clarke and James Scida.
Simi Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Scida and Ryan Schlundt Bodien. Simi Valley got some further help from Izak Simpson: he made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Simi Valley's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Pacifica, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Pacifica has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 266.9 passing yards per game. Simi Valley, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 155.2 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
