Volleyball Recap: Jserra Catholic Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Mater Dei

JSerra Catholic faced Mater Dei in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Lions came up short against the Monarchs, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lions have suffered since August 19th.

While JSerra Catholic was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-16, 26-24.

Makayla Ziegler paced JSerra Catholic's offense, picking up 13 kills. Ziegler got some help from Catherine Beadles and her 23 assists. Paloma Wilkinson controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Leading Mater Dei to victory were Kate Scherlacher and Sam Capinpin. Scherlacher had seven assists and six digs, while Capinpin had 12 assists and four digs.

JSerra Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-14 record this season. As for Mater Dei, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 29-4.

As of now, neither JSerra Catholic nor the Monarchs have any future games scheduled.
