Basketball Game Preview: American Fork Cavemen vs. Timpview Thunderbirds

Having just played yesterday, the American Fork Cavemen will jump right back in to play the Timpview Thunderbirds at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, American Fork earned a 77-67 win over Mt. Zion Baptist.

Bryce Mella had a dynamite game, shooting 55% from the field to rack up 33 points and five boards. His big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Ashton Hucks was another key player, putting up ten points and six assists.

American Fork was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Timpview was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Timpanogos 69-39. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Timpview had a senior duo take command as Will Openshaw went 8-for-12 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds and Dean Rueckert shot 57% from the field en route to 20 points and three steals. Openshaw is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Holcombe, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Timpview's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for American Fork, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

American Fork beat Timpview 58-45 in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Thunderbirds' Jaxon Santiago, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 21 points.
