Basketball Game Preview: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Benson Bobcats

The Sahuarita Mustangs will take on the Benson Bobcats in a tournament on Thursday. Sahuarita has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Sahuarita is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They received a blow on Saturday as they fell 74-58 to Cactus Shadows. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Falcons are ranked 17th).

Despite the loss, Sahuarita had strong showings from Gabe Epling, who posted nine points and three steals, and Ruben Villalba, who earned 15 points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Durazo, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, Benson didn't have quite enough to beat The Gregory School on Wednesday and fell 53-50. The Bobcats haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Sahuarita's record is now 1-7. As for Benson, their record now sits at 1-3.

Sahuarita didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Benson in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 55-49 win. Will Sahuarita repeat their success, or does Benson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
