Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Genesee

Genesee extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 4-2. They put the hurt on the Atherton Wolverines with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Brandon Rouse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Rouse was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Genesee's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Abbe, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Abbe is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Logan Ball also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Genesee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Atherton, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Atherton's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalyn Robinson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Coming up, Genesee will face off against Kearsley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Atherton, they will challenge Hamady at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
