Baseball Recap: Marion-Franklin Gets the Win

Marion-Franklin won the last time they faced South and things went their way on Thursday too. The Red Devils had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 7-6.

Marvin RJ Robinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Marion-Franklin is 2-1 when Robinson posts eight or more strikeouts, but 2-5-1 otherwise. Robinson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jamarion Parks, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Eduardo Martinez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Marion-Franklin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 4-6-1. As for South, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.

Coming up, Marion-Franklin will venture away from home to square off against Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South, they will host Northside Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.14 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
