Basketball Recap: Santa Paula's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was a proper cat-fight when Santa Paula duked it out withWeed on Saturday. The Santa Paula Cardinals took an 86-78 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weed Cougars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (77), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Marcus Horton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Weed, going 13 for 21 on his way to 30 points in addition to six boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Horton a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon King, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards.

With the defeat, Santa Paula broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5. As for Weed, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Santa Paula wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 83-60 win against Bishop Diego on the 30th. As for Weed, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hoopa Valley at 6:30 p.m. on January 7th.
