Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Central Bears
Springstead has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Central Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Springstead's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact Springstead proved on Friday. They walked away with a 63-53 victory over Weeki Wachee. Given Springstead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 566th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austin Nicholson was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zion McKenzie, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 68-59 to Seminole. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Springstead is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Central, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4.
Springstead might still be hurting after the 72-52 loss they got from Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Springstead avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
