Basketball Game Preview: John Paul II Guardians vs. San Marcos Rattlers

The John Paul II Guardians will challenge the San Marcos Rattlers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. John Paul II knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully San Marcos likes a good challenge.

On Friday, John Paul II came up short against Great Hearts Northern Oaks and fell 71-63. The contest marked the Guardians' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, John Paul II got top-tier performance from Marcus Taylor, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Taylor is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Breshun Wilson, who posted 14 points and six steals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Marcos, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Crockett 69-32. The Rattlers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 14, 2024 (when they won 82-39).

San Marcos' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for John Paul II, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
