Volleyball Recap: Espanola Valley Takes a Loss

Espanola Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Moriarty Pintos. The Sundevils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pintos earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Espanola Valley started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.

Moriarty can attribute much of their success to Payten Butler, who had 12 digs. Those 12 digs gave Butler a new career-high.

Espanola Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Moriarty, they moved to 7-14 with that win, which also ended their four-match losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Espanola Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Pojoaque Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Moriarty will challenge rival Los Alamos at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
