Volleyball Recap: Mater Dei Snaps 14-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Mater Dei faced Redondo Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Monarchs fell just short of the Sea Hawks by a score of 3-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since August 31, 2021, but that streak is no more.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Mater Dei sadly wound up on the wrong side. The final score came out to 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12.

Loss or not, Mater Dei got some senior leadership from Sam Capinpin and Soraya Dennis. Capinpin had 13 digs and three aces, while Dennis had eight digs and two aces. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Capinpin.

Mater Dei's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2. As for Redondo Union, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Looking ahead, Mater Dei will venture away from home to square off against Mira Costa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Redondo Union, they will welcome Sierra Canyon at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
