Football Game Preview: Fort Morgan Mustangs vs. Severance Silver Knights

The Fort Morgan Mustangs will head out to face off against the Severance Silver Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Morgan has given up an average of 32.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fort Morgan is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They were outmatched by Pomona and fell 65-14. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Panthers are ranked 24th).

Although Fort Morgan took the loss, they still got scores from Frankie Urias and Izeiah Ortiz.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Severance brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They claimed a resounding 41-7 victory over Mountain View. The win was some much needed relief for the Silver Knights as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Fort Morgan better keep an eye on Brady Iversen. He was instrumental in Severance's win, rushing for 67 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 99 yards and one TD while completing 77.8% of his passes. Those 67 rushing yards gave Iversen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Yahn, who rushed for 55 yards and one score on only five carries.

Severance's run defense was locked in: Mountain View could only muster 0.6 yards per carry. The Silver Knights' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.7 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.2 on average over their last five games.

Severance's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Fort Morgan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Fort Morgan ended up a good deal behind Severance when the teams last played back in November of 2024, losing 21-6. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
