Mansfield Legacy and Lake Ridge are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Mansfield Legacy and Crowley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Broncos took a 30-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Thursday. The Broncos have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Mansfield Legacy got top-tier performance from J-Uan Harrison Jr., who rushed for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Harrison Jr.'s longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Ridge). They strolled past Weatherford with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 63-46. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Kangaroos are ranked 421st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mansfield Legacy better keep an eye on DeShawn Edwards. He was instrumental in Lake Ridge's win, rushing for 109 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 219 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Edwards a new career-high in passer rating (137.3). Jaiden Cotton was another key rusher, rushing for 146 yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lake Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 279 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Mansfield Legacy now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Lake Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mansfield Legacy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 242.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mansfield Legacy took their victory against Lake Ridge when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 38-14 score. Do the Broncos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
