Basketball Recap: Highline Takes a Loss

After flying high against Tyee last Saturday, Highline came back down to earth. The Highline Pirates fell 67-54 to the Lindbergh Eagles on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Loss or not, Highline got some senior leadership from Corey Crosby and Zayne Cola. Crosby dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 boards, while Cola dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Crosby's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Jefferson-Warren, who posted five points along with 11 boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Highline smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Lindbergh got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was James Huff out in front who went 10 for 17 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Huff has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 15 times he's played. Suheyb Hassan was another key player, going 7 of 14 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Highline's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Lindbergh, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Highline didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-57 loss against Sammamish on the 31st. As for Lindbergh, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 54-51 defeat against Foster on the 31st.
