Softball Game Preview: Cotter Warriors vs. Alpena Leopards

The Cotter Warriors will square off against the Alpena Leopards at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cotter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Cotter was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Forsyth 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since March 4, 2025.

Myah McNutt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Avery Rice and Gracyn Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Rice went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Jackson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was Rice's first of the season. Riley Brotherton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Cotter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forsyth only posted a batting average of .207.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Alpena's offense. They came up short against Jasper on Thursday, falling 16-0.

Alpena's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cotter, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.

Everything went Cotter's way against Alpena when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Cotter made off with a 15-0 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Leopards have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
