Softball Recap: Stevens Point Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Stevens Point had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Hortonville Polar Bears by a score of 10-5. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Callie Diekhus made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Stevens Point let Sophia Abundiz and Addi Peskie run wild. Abundiz went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Peskie went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits Abundiz has posted since back in May. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Romano, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Stevens Point kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in eight consecutive games.

Stevens Point's record now sits at 24-4. As for Hortonville, their loss dropped their record down to 23-4.

Coming up, Stevens Point will face off against Green Bay Preble on Thursday. The Hornets will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. Hortonville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
