Football Recap: Jayden Ellington and Steven Brown Secure Win for Althoff Catholic

The Althoff Catholic Crusaders strolled past the Highland Bulldogs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-26.

Leading Althoff Catholic to victory were Steven Brown and Jayden Ellington. Brown gained 191 total yards, while Ellington rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (three).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Althoff Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only rushed for 178 rushing yards.

Althoff Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Drew McGee and Jakobi Tow.

Despite the defeat, Highland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carter Harris rushed for 172 yards and one TD while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 72 receiving yards and one score.

Althoff Catholic's record is now 2-0. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Althoff Catholic is taking a road trip to square off against Belleville East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Gateway Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
