Football Recap: Pioneer Takes Down Godinez Fundamental in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pioneer had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-6.

Pioneer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Anderson out in front who rushed for 91 yards on only seven carries, and also threw for 159 yards and one touchdown on only 14 passes. Anderson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Titans' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-6 otherwise. A healthy portion of Anderson's aerial production (102 yards to be exact) went to Jose Rojas.

Godinez Fundamental's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Ramirez, who rushed for 115 yards and one score. The team also got some help courtesy of Damien Arreola, who rushed for 50 yards and one TD.

The victory made it two in a row for Pioneer and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points over those games. As for Godinez Fundamental, they now also have a losing record of 5-6.

Coming up, Pioneer will head out to take on Trinity Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Godinez Fundamental does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
