Volleyball Recap: Hanks Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Sofia Nevarez and Ariana Guillen

After a string of four wins, Hanks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Del Valle Conquistadores. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Conquistadores this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

Hanks started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-12, 25-11, 27-25.

Hanks' loss came despite strong showings from Ariana Guillen and Sofia Nevarez. Guillen had 20 digs and three aces, while Nevarez had 26 digs and two aces. Nevarez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Del Valle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaitlyn Chavez, who had 18 assists and four digs. That's the most assists Chavez has posted over her last six matchups.

Hanks' loss dropped their record down to 11-19. As for Del Valle, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 25-10.

Coincidentally, Hanks and Del Valle will both be playing El Dorado the next time they take the court. The Knights will head out to face the Aztecs at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Conquistadores will host them at 6:35 p.m. on Friday.
