Football Recap: Roxana's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Roxana can now relate to. They fell 42-32 to the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans on Saturday. The Shells were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Roxana saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mekhi Shorter rushed for 142 yards and one score while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.

St. Joseph-Ogden had a senior duo take command as Wyatt Wertz rushed for 185 yards and one touchdown and Kodey McKinney rushed for 72 yards and a pair of TDs. With that strong performance, Wertz is now averaging an impressive 107.6 rushing yards per game.

The defeat snapped Roxana's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-4 record. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-4.

Roxana does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, they will challenge Vandalia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans will need to watch out since the Vandals have now posted at least 31 points in their last five matchups.
