Basketball Recap: Hendrick Hudson Starts Season with Victory at Home

Hendrick Hudson gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against the John Jay Wolves by a score of 58-49. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sailors also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

Hendrick Hudson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maria Ribeiro led the charge by going 8-for-14 en route to 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Ribeiro a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Carleighs Ortiz, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hendrick Hudson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against John Jay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
