Basketball Recap: Independence vs. Lightridge Bolts
Independence had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Lightridge by a score of 47-40 on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Independence also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Independence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grant Kunkle out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Dominic Mason was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Independence's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Lightridge, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence and the Bulldogs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Stone Bridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the in Virginia (the Bulldogs are ranked 89th, while the are ranked 229th). As for Lightridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Falcons at 5:45 p.m. on January 31st. Briar Woods is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
